Nolulamo Lulu Maquthu

Nolulamo Lulu Maquthu’s career path weaves together her passion for performance and education. In 2012, she graduated with Honors in Drama and Performance from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). Prior to UKZN, she graduated with Cum Laude in Drama Studies from the Durban University of Technology, where she actively participated in a staggering 21 stage productions. Nolulamo’s talents extend beyond the stage. She has thrived as a freelance actress, dancer, director, and stage manager for various projects, even gracing the prestigious Grahamstown National Arts Festival (Makhanda). On screen, she’s graced popular shows like Durban Gen (Seasons 1 & 2), The Wife (Season 2), and Thorns the Movie (2022 SABC 1). She’s also appeared in commercials for Nandos (2023) and Chicken Licken (2023).

Nolulamo’s production coordination experience spans prestigious events like the Durban International Film Festival (2016-2019), Time of The Writer (2019 - 2021), Durban FilmMart (2021 – 2024), and The European Film Festival (2022-2024)

Recognizing her interest in creative industry education, she leveraged her experience at the UKZN Centre for Creative Arts as a festival coordinator to join AFDA Durban in 2016. Currently, she brings her expertise to students as a Senior Acting Lecturer at the AFDA Johannesburg Campus.

Further to that, Nolulamo, is part of The Christian Filmmaker’s Network - CFN (2024) as Head of Production in Johannesburg. In CFN, she has Produced and Acted in Finding Love and Light short film (2024), Executive Producer and Producer for Confined short film (2024) and Unseen Hands short film (2024). Nolulamo’s dedication to learning continues as she pursues a Master’s of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from AFDA specializing in Producing.
